Three generations of roofs on one Cedar Park street
Walk one street in Buttercup Creek and you can read four decades of Cedar Park building. The neighborhood began as starter homes in the early 1980s and didn't finish building out until 2014, with houses from 1,040 to 4,537 square feet by builders including Centex and Meritage. Roofs from three different eras sit side by side, each on its own clock.
The city grew the same way. Cedar Park incorporated in 1973 with about 700 residents, in a fight over water rights and Austin's advancing city limits. It reached 10,000 people by 1993 and then doubled in five years. The 2020 census counted 77,595 residents, with a 2025 estimate of 79,032, about 16 miles northwest of downtown Austin.
