What sets our bathroom remodeling apart

  • One company for the whole house

We're already on San Antonio roofs, in attics and on storm jobs. So when the bathroom fan needs a new roof vent, the crew that cuts the hole is the crew that flashes it.
  • Licensed trades where Texas requires them

Plumbing goes to licensed plumbers. Electrical goes to licensed electricians. If the City of San Antonio calls for a permit, we pull it.
  • Former adjusters for leak rebuilds

When a covered water loss kicked off the remodel, documentation comes first. Our in-house former insurance adjusters know what the carrier wants to see before the old shower gets torn out.
  • Waterproofing before any tile goes up

Nice tile over a bad pan leaks into the subfloor, sooner or later. That's exactly why the membrane and shower pan get most of our attention.
  • Fans vented outside, every time

Steam dumped into the attic ends up as mold on the roof decking. Ours go outdoors.
  • Free estimate, written scope

A written list of what comes out, what goes in and who handles each part. Call us Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m..

What Bathroom Remodeling in San Antonio Covers

Some people just want a new vanity and toilet. Others want the room stripped to the studs. Both are bathroom remodels, and in San Antonio Texas-RRR handles the whole range: tub and shower replacement, tub-to-shower conversions, wall and floor tile, vanities and tops, toilets, faucets and shower valves, lighting, exhaust fans, and the drywall and paint that pull it together. The look and the finishes are your call. Ours is telling you what holds up, what it takes to install, and what's behind the walls once they're open.

A word on scope, because people get burned on it. The bathrooms that disappoint a few years in usually aren't the ones with cheap tile. They're the ones where somebody tiled over a soft subfloor, skipped the shower membrane, or left the old fan blowing into the attic. Pay for the hidden parts first. Spend what's left on finishes. Every estimate we write splits those into two lists, so you can make that call yourself. On the visit we push on the floor around the toilet and tub, look for stains on the ceiling below, and check the attic over the fan. Those three spots tell us most of what the walls are hiding.

How a Texas-RRR Bathroom Remodel Runs, Step by Step

  1. Consultation and free estimate. We look at the bathroom, the floor under it, the attic over it and the roof vent. And we ask how you actually use the room.
  2. Written scope. A plain list: demolition, rough-in work, the materials you're supplying, the ones we're supplying, and anything that needs a permit.
  3. Protection and demo. We cover the floors and the path out of the house. Then the old tub, tile and fixtures come out, and we photograph whatever turns up behind them.
  4. Rough-in by licensed trades. Licensed plumbers move or replace supply and drain lines and set the shower valve. Licensed electricians take care of new circuits, outlets and fan wiring. If the job's permitted, this is when it gets inspected.
  5. Subfloor, backer board and waterproofing. Weak spots get fixed and cement board or a similar backer goes on. The shower pan and wall membrane go in next, and both get checked before any tile.
  6. Tile, vanity and fixtures. Tile, then grout and sealing. After that come the vanity, top, toilet, trim, glass and accessories.
  7. Final walkthrough. We run every fixture with you, look for leaks and go down the punch list before we call it done.

Why so fussy about the order? A shower valve set at the wrong depth before tile means a cracked tile later. Wire a fan before anybody's planned the duct route and it ends up venting into the attic. Our process page covers how we schedule and keep you posted, and you can reach the team any weekday or Saturday for a progress check.

San Antonio Water, Humidity and Older Houses

Three local conditions shape how we plan a bathroom here. Nothing exotic about any of them. They just keep showing up on San Antonio jobs, year after year.

Hard water from the Edwards Aquifer

Check the shower head in most San Antonio homes and you'll find white crust. Most of the city drinks water drawn from the Edwards Aquifer, which runs through limestone and reaches the tap hard, carrying a lot of dissolved calcium and magnesium. It clouds glass doors and leaves a ring in the tub. It wears out faucet and valve cartridges faster, too, and the film shows worse on dark, glossy finishes than on light ones. What we'd tell a friend: buy fixtures with replaceable cartridges. Think twice about a frameless glass door if nobody's going to squeegee it. Ask about sealed grout, so the mineral film wipes off instead of soaking in. And if a whole-house water softener is on your list, have a licensed plumber tie it in while the walls are open. It costs less than doing it later.

Humidity and ventilation

South Texas air stays humid most of the year, and a closed bathroom after a hot shower holds plenty of it. The model residential code that Texas cities build on calls for a bathroom exhaust fan, commonly rated at 50 cubic feet per minute for a fan that runs on demand, and it requires that fan to exhaust outdoors. Lots of older San Antonio bathrooms don't. The fan blows into the attic. Steam condenses on the underside of the roof deck, and the decking rots or grows mold. We're roofers first, so we run the duct to a proper roof or wall vent and flash it so it won't leak. Find mold in the attic during the estimate? Our mold remediation page explains what happens next.

Pier-and-beam floors in older neighborhoods

A lot of San Antonio houses built before the 1950s sit on pier-and-beam foundations, not a slab. You'll find them in Monte Vista, King William and Southtown and Alamo Heights, among other places. For a bathroom, that means two things. The floor flexes more than concrete, so tile needs a stiff, well-supported subfloor or the grout cracks. And over the decades, some plumbers notched joists to run drain lines. When there's crawlspace access we check the framing from below, and the subfloor gets repaired before tile goes down. We don't do foundation or leveling work. If the floor's far out of level, we'll tell you, and we'd have a foundation specialist look at it before you spend money on tile.

When a Leak Starts the Remodel

Lots of San Antonio bathroom remodels don't begin with a wish list. They begin with a stain on the ceiling downstairs, a soft spot by the toilet, or a vanity cabinet that smells musty. When a pipe bursts or a supply line fails without warning, most Texas homeowner policies cover the resulting water damage, and that coverage can pay to rebuild the damaged parts of the bathroom. Slow leaks that went on for months? Different story. Plenty of policies exclude them. Your policy's wording decides it, so read it, or ask us to go through it with you.

This is where our in-house former insurance adjusters earn their keep. They document the damage before demolition, photograph wet framing and subfloor, and meet the carrier's adjuster so the scope reflects the real loss. Drying and cleanup run through our water damage restoration service first. Then the rebuild becomes your remodel. Want to go further than the claim covers? We price the difference separately, which keeps the claim clean. One practical tip: take your own photos and hang on to the failed part, whether it's a burst supply line or a cracked fitting, until the adjuster has seen it. The claim side follows the same steps laid out on our insurance claims page.

What Drives the Cost of a Bathroom Remodel

We don't publish prices for bathroom remodels. Two bathrooms the same size can land far apart once the walls are open. What we can do is point to the decisions that move the number most.

Relocation is the big one. Moving the toilet, shower drain or vanity costs more than leaving them where they are, since every relocated drain means new plumbing in the floor. Converting a tub? Add a pan, a membrane and a new valve. Tile adds labor by the square foot, and small mosaics or complicated patterns take far longer than large plain tile. Pull up the floor in an older pier-and-beam home and subfloor or framing repair may join the list. New circuits, lighting and a properly vented fan bring electrical and roofing work along, and fixture and finish grades sit on top of everything else.

Want a national reference point before you call? Remodeling magazine's annual Cost vs. Value report and Angi both publish national average ranges for bathroom remodels. That's background reading, not our prices or a quote. Your free estimate gives you a real number for your bathroom.

Bathroom Remodeling Across San Antonio

Texas-RRR is based in San Antonio and remodels bathrooms across San Antonio and nearby towns, including Helotes, Boerne and New Braunfels. The house changes the job. A 1930s bungalow near downtown comes with pier-and-beam floors and cast iron drains. A 1970s ranch house on the North Side often still has the original fiberglass tub, plus a fan that never reached the roof. Newer two-stories in master-planned neighborhoods tend to have a slab floor, good access and a builder-grade shower that's ready for an upgrade. Each one gets planned differently. On a slab, moving a drain means cutting concrete, which changes the cost and makes for a loud day or two.

Did we do your roof? Say so when you call. We'll already know your attic, your vents and how the house goes together. The number is (210) 802-6906, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Why San Antonio homeowners call Texas-RRR for a bathroom

Most bathroom contractors meet your house at the bathroom door. We've probably been on your roof. Texas-RRR has completed 2,800+ projects across the San Antonio and Austin metros, mostly roofs and storm damage, and Charlie, our owner, brings 30 years of experience to the work. More of that carries indoors than you'd think, because a bathroom ties into the attic, the roof vent and the plumbing stack, and in an older home, the floor framing underneath it too.

We're veteran owned, registered and insured, with 8 full crew teams. Charlie Carreon owns the company. His is the name you'll see in our Google reviews, where we hold a 5.0 rating from 16 reviewers. Most of those reviews are about roofs, and we won't pretend otherwise. Still, Joe L. described the standard we bring inside pretty well: "My family and I always appreciate their attention to detail and customer service."
