The County Seat Since 1846

Seguin was laid out on August 12, 1838 as Walnut Springs and became the Guadalupe County seat in 1846. Its 1850 Park's concrete schoolhouse is the oldest continuously used school building in Texas. Texas Lutheran moved to the Louis Fritz Farm in 1912, became Texas Lutheran University in 1996, and sits at 1000 West Court Street. Not every town this close to San Antonio carries this much history on its rooflines.

Main Street Roofs Need a Certificate of Appropriateness

Seguin's downtown historic district along Main Street dates to 1983 and covers 129 properties. Changes to roofs, windows, doors or awnings there require a Certificate of Appropriateness. Outside the district, the city's Permits and Inspections page still lists roof and re-roof work as permit-required, while siding, painting and fences under seven feet sit on the no-permit list.

Seguin enforces the 2021 International Residential Code, and every contractor has to register with the Development Services Center before the city issues any permit (Permits line: 830-401-2435). Our opinion? If a roofer can't tell you whether they've registered in Seguin, keep looking.

Hail Ran Down I-10 and Ended Here

During the April 28 to May 1, 2021 record hail event, one storm cell tracked east from San Antonio along I-10 and ended near Seguin. The May 9, 2024 warnings for very large hail and wind covered Guadalupe County as well. Storms like those leave dents you can see from the street and bruised shingles you cannot.

Our Seguin storm damage roofers document both, and our in-house former insurance adjusters help you build the insurance claim around that evidence. When patching won't hold, a full roof replacement in Seguin is the honest answer, and we'll tell you so.

Industrial Roofs and Clay Ground

Seguin's top employers include Caterpillar (about 1,500 workers), CMC Steel Texas (about 900) and Tyson Foods (about 830). Lippert's Ranch Hand division broke ground on a 400,000 sq ft plant on November 4, 2025. That is a lot of low-slope roof, and we handle commercial and historic roofing in Seguin, flat systems included.

At home, Guadalupe County clay moves, and a shifting frame can open flashing at the roofline. We check flashing and ridge lines for that movement on every inspection, and the soil details live on our Guadalupe County roofing page. Nearby, we also serve Schertz and Cibolo.
